$200 Million Ice Bust in WA

A miceajor drug bust has been made in WA resulting in the arrest of 14 foreign nationals.

Police reportedly interrupted a major methamphetamine smuggling racket into WA. During the bust police seized 200kg of ice worth $200 million.

The seizure is the second largest in the history of the state. The biggest happened last year when 321kg crystal meth was seized in September.

WA Tourism Market Eyes China

FREMANTLE PRISONFollowing news that WA has 2 of the top 10 tourist attractions in Australia according to TripAdvisor, the state is eyeing the big Chinese market.

Fremantle Prison made it to the top 10 list of Australian tourist sites but apparently due to weak destination marketing, the state is missing out on China’s lucrative tourism income. This was revealed by Chinese travel professionals.

According to Chinese travel agents, awareness of the state’s landscapes and experiences was low, agents attending Tourism WA’s Ni Hao conference in Fremantle recently revealed.

WA Property Developer Donation Ban Unlikely

aus moneyThe major political parties in Western Australia have ruled out banning political donations from property developers, a decision following in the footsteps of New South Wales.

Despite the decision, Premier Colin Barnett called upon Opposition Leader Mark McGowan to detail his relationship with outspoken Perth property developer Nigel Satterley.

The property developer owns land at Mandogalup near Kwinana, which could be the subject of a residential building ban under industrial buffer legislation being considered by the government.

Earthquake hits WA

A string of earthquakes shook the WA Goldfields region recently and it was felt by locals with windows rattling and the ground shaking.

The quake reportedly had the strength of an atomic bomb.

There was a series of 4 earthquakes that hit near Norseman with one magnitude 5.2 quake being felt as far away as Perth.

Land and River Search for Missing Man

The search is still on for a missing man who was last seen out drinking with his friends at a beer café on Murray street in Perth on Friday May 20th.

The 37 year old Sean Mitchell called a friend to say he was going on a friend’s yacht which was moored in the Swan River near the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club.

The man then apparently used a yellow dingy to row to shore from the yacht and wasn’t seen since.

Fremantle Prison Named One of Top 10 Australian Tourist Sites

FREMANTLE PRISONFremantle Prison has once again been named one of the top 10 tourist sites in Australia.

The prison was only one of two Perth places to be named in the TripAdvisor 2016 Travellers Choice Awards list.

Fremantle Prison came in number seven on the list. The other attractions that made the list include:

Alarming Closures in Fremantle

woolwothsAn article on CommunityNews.com.au revealed that a number of businesses in Fremantle are closing.

The shopping precinct in the CBD was described as particularly alarming with a large list of retailers closing down over the past few years.

Some of the places that have closed include Myer, Harvey Norman, Spotlight, Dymocks, Angus and Robertson, Thingz Gifts, Dick Smith (nationwide closure) and McDonald’s (Fishing Boat Harbour) etc.

Today Woolworths will also close its doors.

Earliest Australians May Have Invented The Axe – WA Discovery Revealed

Archaeologists found the tool in the remote Kimberley region which indicates that early Australians were technological innovators and were more advanced in their tool use than previously thought.

This is Where to Go for Perth’s Best Steak Sandwich

The Australian Hoteliers Association Expo was recently held at the Crown with the steak sandwich bringing together WA venues and pubs, showcasing home-style cooking and locally grown WA produce.

Fremantle Man Charged After Yangebup Incident

A Fremantle man was charged with a series of drug and firearm offences after his vehicle was stopped by police recently.

The man was identified by police after driving his car erratically in Yangebup.

perth-policeThe 31 year old man then failed to stop when requested and tried to evade police before abandoning his car.

He was arrested thereafter which is when a homemade firearm, ammunition, methylamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were discovered in his possession.

He was charged for possession of these items as well as with reckless driving, having no authority to drive and failing to comply with a request to give personal details.
